OCXO
Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillators (OCXO) represent the pinnacle of frequency stability among quartz-based oscillators, achieving stability in the parts per billion (ppb) range. They achieve this by enclosing the quartz crystal and critical oscillator circuitry within a miniature, electronically controlled oven that maintains a constant internal temperature, regardless of external ambient variations. While larger and consuming more power than other oscillator types, OCXOs are indispensable for the most demanding applications requiring ultra-precise timing and low phase noise, such as cellular base stations (4G/5G), high-precision test and measurement equipment, network synchronization (Stratum 2/3E), satellite communications, and radar systems.
